Only the Second of Sixteen

So first and foremost I counted and realized I only blogged house updates five times in 2015. How is that possible? The changes that took place, the challenges too. It doesn't feel like like they could even begin to be explained in five posts. I guess life and finishing college on top of work had gotten the best of me. I promise to try and do better this year. I mean I'm only on number two and were already in the fifth month, but I'll try to be on the path to do a little better this year on the updates.

So to update from January, we have made some serious progress on sections of the house. The basement of the house. Digging out about 20 inches down of the basement floor, then pouring concrete, and repointing the stone wall. Also the outside of the house has seen some work. My main job was stuffing backer rod insulation in any cracks, then chase would go back and claulk over those spots. We also are seeing the in progress kitchen finally seeing the finishing points. All of our cabinets are installed. We have the sink ready to set in. My dad has built a gorgeous bar top and open shelves that all in now, and beyond gorgeous. My Dad and Chase surprised me for my birthday by having the bar completely finished. The top was made of wood from a cherry tree at Chase's parent's, and the wood below was from a shed at my dad's house. The fact it brought together our home places means the most of all.  As soon as countertops go on, backsplash, and one last green paint job our kitchen will be cookin'! Well if we had the stove hooked up that is. A great friend Byron has run our water lines and we all struggled to pull though the gas line for a few hours. (Only to find out it's not going to work where it is). With the water lines finally run, it won't be long until we're seeing it run from the faucet. Chase's dad has transformed the basement even more, and it now may be the nicest looking room in the house.

On the top of the list is the roof project, which is underway but I will save more pictures of for a later blog post. This constant rain here in Virginia has put a hault on the progress there, but don't worry plenty has been taken place since. So far this year we've seen the extremes of weather. So much snow it was up to our knees, and now so much rain. It's made for a gorgeous spring at the house. There is so much green that I wouldn't trade it for anything. When we take a slower Sunday at the house, and just mow and do some minimal branch clearing, it's like taking a sneak peak into what life will be like down the road. When we just live there. I. Know.  I sound like a broken record sometimes, but I promise I get just a tired of saying it as you may get of hearing it. It will come with time though. I know without any doubt that Chase has worked tirelessly for two straight years on this home and won't stop pushing. We have long days, hard days, but no matter what we have so many good days. We are making so many memories, and times to look back on fondly.
